Unlocking the power of integrated health at AFAC 2025

Cogent Thinking was proud to participate in this year’s AFAC powered by INTERSCHUTZ Conference and Exhibition, joining leaders from across fire and emergency services to discuss new approaches to supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of frontline workforces.

As part of the conference program, Nick Grant (Executive General Manager, Cogent Thinking) and Andi Crowe (Client Solutions Manager, Cogent Thinking) presented on Unlocking the Power of Integrated Health Services. The conversation focused on how coordinated medical, psychological and wellbeing supports can create better outcomes for workers, organisations and the communities they serve.

Nick and Andi were joined on stage by:

  • Dr Miguel Sergio Kabilio, Occupational Physician, Cogent Thinking
  • Cameron Michael Micallef, Emily Adamczyk and Craig Williams from Fire Rescue Victoria

Together, the group shared insights from the ongoing partnership between Cogent Thinking and Fire Rescue Victoria, reflecting on:

  • The value of co-designing services with operational leaders
  • The importance of early intervention and proactive care pathways
  • The role of psychological safety and peer networks
  • The impact of integrated support models across statewide and shift-based workforces

Why this matters

Frontline and emergency services personnel work in environments where health and wellbeing are critical. When organisations take a coordinated, people-first approach to health services, the results are clearer pathways to care, more confident decision-making, and better long-term outcomes for workers.

This is the foundation of Cogent’s work: supporting the people who support our communities.

Thank you

Our sincere thanks to our colleagues at Fire Rescue Victoria for their openness and collaboration, and to AFAC for providing a platform to share learning and innovation across the sector.
